Project Details

Using a traditional Scandinavian krokbragd pattern, Wick will design and weave three large tapestries which will be displayed in rural northern Minnesota. She will develop and teach a class on krokbragd tapestry technique.

Advisory Group Members and Qualifications

Momoko Niemi: Tanno is a singer, actor, performer, and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, teaching in the music department and the stage and screen arts department. Tanno has served on a community advisory board for Park Square Theater, as a diversity, equity, and inclusion committee member at MacPhail Center for Music, and as a board member for Minneapolis Japanese School.; Mark Peterson: Peterson is currently a reporter and photographer for the Northeaster newspaper and a writer for Documenters.org, a nonprofit that reports on public meetings. He was a project manager for the nonprofit Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, and he made nine trips to Central America to volunteer to build homes. His photographic work was first exhibited in 1973, and his collage work has been accepted into the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition ten times. He has been a Minnesota State Arts Board grant advisor twice.; Barbara Roberts: Roberts has experience from living in Massachusetts prior to Minnesota. Roberts was cochair for the Yarmouth Arts Council; the council determined grant distribution of lottery funds that were given to the town. Roberts is a lifelong amateur artist and supporter of the arts. Roberts has volunteer experience in grant writing for a local school and humane society.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Rural Minnesotans will engage with traditional Scandinavian weaving techniques through a weaving class and a public display and presentation. Student evaluation forms will assess the outcome success of the class. Attendees of the public presentation will fill out a survey about their knowledge of krokbragd and tapestry weaving after the presentation.
