The community mural will hold profound significance for Fairfax, Minnesota, as it serves as more than just a piece of artwork; it symbolizes unity, empowerment, and cultural expression. The project will strengthen social bonds and foster a sense of unity among diverse populations in Fairfax. The mural will empower underserved and underrepresented communities to reclaim and celebrate their cultural heritage. The mural will activate public spaces, making them more vibrant and accessible to all residents. The process of creating the mural will incorporate citizens with varied experiences with artwork creation. By contributing to the process itself, included citizens will gain knowledge of the necessary work behind an art project, leading to an increased appreciation for artworks of all kinds. We will employ a variety of data collection methods, including pre- and post-project surveys to assess changes in community attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors; interviews and focus groups with project participants and community members to gather qualitative insights into the project's effects; observational studies and site visits to monitor changes in public space usage and community interaction; and social media monitoring and sentiment analysis to track community engagement and public discourse surrounding the mural. We anticipate collecting initial results within six weeks of project completion, with ongoing monitoring and evaluation conducted over the following 6 months to assess longer-term impacts and sustainability.
