Native Arts Fellow
In addition to the plan for exhibitions, the FY24/25 ACHF grant will enable the M to hire a Native Arts Fellow. This Fellow will lead the work plan formed in June 2023 from the M's two-day convening with 15 Native Artists. The goal of this convening was the first step at incorporating Indigenous perspectives as the M moves forward with intersectionality and intentionality. The Fellow's role will be to continue to build relationships with tribal elders, Native artists, and community partners as the M continues to Indigenize our spaces through exhibitions and programming. The Fellow will also support curatorial and programming for the upcoming exhibition schedule. Community artists have also proposed the creation of an Indigenous steering committee to further this work in relationship with the Fellow.
A measurable change will be the number of relationships with the Native community that formed due to having a Native Arts Fellow in place. In addition, this will result in a better representation of Native voices in the M's art collection, exhibitions, and programs and a community that feels heard and supported. These indicators will be measured through surveys and feedback shared and captured by the Native Arts Fellow.
Additionally, a measurable outcome will be that with a dedicated Native Arts Fellow, the M will be able to increase the number of Indigenous visitors to our spaces and participation in programming.
