Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Research on trauma has shown that using art allows people to move beyond emotional pain. When people create a narrative through images, they release painful memories and can begin to be process their traumatic experience. The act of creating a collage story portrait provides an artistic outlet for healing, inner peace, and moving through grief and sadness. It is our goal with the community Story Portrait workshops that we can provide a powerful outlet for grief, trauma, and loss. By training 25 healthcare workers, behavioral health workers, educators, and/or clergy, these people will be more equipped when working with individuals, families, and groups in their community. This will create a stronger bond within each community. Measurements of success for these training workshops include post-event surveys for participants.
