DBAA as an organization recognizes the challenges of transition when a founder retires. The primary goal is a smooth transition in all areas of the work of DBAA, for continuity and increased long term stability. With ample notice given to the board by the current director, DBAA has the opportunity to devote intentional training time during the current season for both the organizational side of DBAA and the student-based side of its work. The new hires will complete checklists with items like meeting with the board and school administrators to discuss future programming, learning about organizational history and funding sources, shadowing the current director during DBAA activities, preparing a budget, and attending the MN Presenters Network summer conference.

This project assisted in the smooth transition of leadership for a twenty-plus-year organization. The incoming Performing Arts Director for the Arts Association said the time was extremely valuable as we worked on many key aspects of planning the upcoming
