Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

In the past, my lessons have primarily focused on learning how to throw and create pots. In contrast, this study will push me to plan pieces that I intend to fire and glaze and learn about other methods of adding texture and nuance to my pieces. In regards to throwing, I would like to improve the speed at which I can center the clay and my maintenance of a consistent width throughout the walls of the pot. Hand-building will also challenge me to create larger pieces that require more thoughtful planning. I also am intrigued by the chemistry behind glazing and firing the pots and hope to acquire additional knowledge in that area during my study. Jerry and I will also address my perfectionism and occasional lack of confidence. I want to eliminate minor design errors to the best of my abilities and the clay's limitations and ensure that any thrown pieces are properly centered to allow a uniform, even shape. At the beginning of my study, I will ask questions about my current progress and have Jerry examine my work and my technique, completing an initial report regarding my abilities. Following my completion of the fifteen pieces, I will have him do a similar analysis to measure my work. I will share my artwork creations with my friends so that they can see my progress, as well as submit my most valued pieces into the Rock County Fair for judging and outside critique.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Through this opportunity, I truly grew as an artist. I developed my own style and preferences that persist as motifs and themes across all of my pieces. I learned a variety of new techniques that build upon my previous pottery experience. This experience
