We now have a physical description for the Red Lake Tribal Archives. We gathered measurements, such as the number of boxes to estimate linear feet of documents, number of paintings and art objects, and quantity of recordings.
The collections management plan and inventory plan exceeded our expectations, we were not only able to get a draft of those reports, but complete versions that were revised and approved by the Red Lake Tribal Archives Director Floyd Jourdain.
In addition, we conducted a Pilot Project based on the consultant's recommendations. The training was completed on August 3, 2021. Rose trained RLNC archives staff how to properly handle materials and what data to collect. She also made suggestions for the best order of priority when starting the inventory process. Before we started the pilot project we created a multi page spreadsheet. We began conducting our inventory using object ID protocols and other data recommended by the consultant. The pilot project consisted of inventorying audio cassette tapes and objects in the sacred objects storage room. We have exceeded our goals by still continuing our work from the pilot project. We have hired staff to work on implementing the collections management plan and inventory plan.
