The Short and Intermediate Term Outcomes are exceeded. The interior was repeatedly inspected after rainfall. Not a drop of water infiltrated the caboose anywhere in the interior.
We delayed our final evaluation until after significant snowfall, and subsequent snow melt. Again, no water or dampness was detected anywhere inside the caboose after these events. We attribute this result to the use of waterproof membrane, and to the double sealing system used around all places where brackets or vents emerge through the roof. We also tested the non-skid property of the walkway in wet conditions, and it met all expectations.
In appearance, the cupola windows match the originals exactly in appearance, composition, and function. They were returned to their original (openable) state. The cupola siding likewise is identical to the original in appearance and composition. We attribute this to the fact that the original eight windows were removed, disassembled, and pieces were individually duplicated to create the eight new windows (no two windows were alike.) Further, using the same woods as in the original siding, brackets, and walkway, and then custom-milling the replacements to match them, leads to seeing the caboose as it looked in service.
