Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The Hockey Arena will become a distinct building with a professionally painted mural instead of a gray non-descript structure.; The expectations are for a new sector of the public from Sauk Centre and all around the state to experience a new art form not ordinarily seen on this type of building. By having volunteers from the hockey association, players and Veterans painting this mural, they will come to appreciate a new art form. Artify Sauk Centre wants to engage a new audience, like our teens and high school students to be part of a civic project. When the mural is finished we will have a new, younger audience that has participated in this public art project. The Civic Arena will be changed from a drab concrete building to a meaningful public art project that has given our youth population an opportunity to create art that may not otherwise be available to them. The project will continue to increase the general public's awareness, knowledge and support of public art in Sauk Centre. This project will also pair the love of sports with an appreciation of public art that honors sports. This new mural will engage a new age group to be exposed to an art form they are unfamiliar with. Area high school artists do not have places to practice this type of art form in their everyday lives. Our evaluation will be an ongoing conversation with these youth to see what they experienced and was this a helpful project. What did they learn? What did they dislike about this project? What did they like about this project? Would they like to be involved with arts in the community? What other ideas do they have for civic arts commitment? The same will be asked of the Veterans. This may be a little more difficult since this population only stays in the area for a limited time. However, wherever the Vets go they will take this experience with them and will become part of their shared memories. This feedback will be gathered verbally through on-site interviews with those who volunteer to paint the mural. Community feedback will also be encouraged and gathered through a public notice in the Sauk Centre Herald, soliciting comments and suggestions on this project and ideas for futrue projects.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The specific achievement will be a new mural on the Civic Arena. This building that houses hockey, the quinceanera and many other events. This building was a drab gray and now will be a distinct addition to the Sauk Centre murals. We will rely on verbal comments and letters to the editors' in the Sauk Centre Herald and the Peach.
