I started painting a year ago to try to process everything happening around me, personally and socially. The physical process of applying paint to canvas is very healing to me. I am a beginner, learning about the mechanics of painting, and it is inspiring to see what my subconscious draws out of me. I know continuing to paint will further my skills, knowledge, and my ability to further my healing process. This is a big unexpected adventure for me. I will continue to get feedback from mentors and peers. My friends and family members have all been recipients of my art and it has been enriching to me to hear their comments.
This has been a great year of working on developing my skills as a professional artist. With funding to buy professional supplies I was able create artwork at a higher level. I have become in the habit of working on my artwork weekly and also belong to an art group that meets weekly that provides support and feedback. I attended the Arts of Minnesota Art Competition this past year. I entered one of my paintings in the Professional level and won 1st Place. I also entered the Barn Theater's art competition with a different painting and won ?The People's Choice Award". It has been great to work on my art again and receive positive comments from the public and other artists. I feel like I am heading in the right direction but have a long way to go. I am trying to create enough artwork to eventually have a show in the future.
