In reference to the state goal? it will allow me to continue to work and pursue this path, while providing for my family. It will allow me to continue putting together a series of works which will eventually show at a gallery, while still making income. My own main goal is to complete at least two paintings depicting women's bodies in a state of empowerment. Beyond this, the goal is to start a conversation, and to draw attention to the problems I'm addressing. The simplest avenue for this is social media? simply getting the images in front of people is a step towards turning the community's attention toward the continued dismissal and negativity about women's bodies and how the patriarchal construct we live in determines how individuals view and interact with their own bodies. I am planning to team up with a local midwife who is an outspoken advocate on these issues to plan an event to show the paintings and have an in-person discussion with community members who are interested. I have a history of creating bodies of work on deadline, for gallery shows. The figure paintings in the Mother series that I have completed over the past year demonstrate that I have the technical and creative ability to execute my vision. The passion with which I have written demonstrates how serious I am about creating this work. To speak to the state goal, simply looking at whether or not I completed the paintings is a measurement of the success of the program. If I am able to complete them, I was sustained by the grant well enough to be able to focus on this new project. Whether or not I have completed two of these paintings is easily measurable. To assess drawing attention and starting a conversation, I can look at social media analytics to see how many people I have reached and how many have interacted with the pieces, leaving their own thoughts in comments or messages. I can assess the success of the in-person event by examining the number of attendees and the amount of discussion/length of time discussed and number of people involved.
