Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

GOAL? To provide at least six quality arts learning experiences for those living in or visiting the Arrowhead Region that: (a) are taught by a local artist and inspired by her own studio practice; (b) combine art and science to form a deeper understanding of complex concepts in both subjects; (c) inspire the community to think outside the box of their understanding of art and the world around them. OUTCOMES: 1. 72+ learners in the Arrowhead Region will participate in unique and challenging classes, creating a professional quality work of art while increasing their understanding of complex artistic concepts. 2. 72+ learners will gain confidence in their artistic abilities by exploring new materials and processes inspired by the work of a local artist. 3. Visitors of the Great Lakes Aquarium Merril Lynch Fine Art Gallery will see art made by people like them that communicates the class participants' findings through their investigation of species living in local water sources. QUALITATIVE MEASURES- Participants will be asked to share their observations and discoveries through verbal question and answer format as well as surveys at the end of the class. Questions may include but are not limited to: What is something that you discovered today that you didn't know before this class' How likely is it that you will continue creating artwork like this outside of this class' What future art projects does this experience inspire you to make? Did this experience change any assumptions that you may have had previously about art or artists' QUANTITATIVE MEASURES: Accurate records will be collected for the number of participants taking the classes and estimates will be provided by the aquarium on the number of visitors to the Merrill Lynch Gallery.
