South St. Louis Soil and Water Conservation District Surface Water Assessment Grant (SWAG) 2022
This project will collect water quality data in the Lake Superior South watershed as part of the Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) development for Minnesota waters. South St. Louis Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) staff will conduct all monitoring in accordance with Intensive Water Monitoring (IWM) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). South St. Louis SWCD staff have extensive experience in stream sampling techniques, including work performed under a St. Louis River Surface Water Assessment Grant (SWAG) agreement in 2019 and 2020 and sampling in the Lake Superior basin in conjunction with Minnesota Pollution Control (MPCA) Stressor Identification staff. The sites to be monitored include: 1) Sucker River (Big Sucker Creek) at Old North Shore Rd, 2) Lester River below Superior St., 3) Tischer Creek adjacent to Columbus Ave, and 4) Chester Creek in Chester Park. The project will result in water quality data that the MPCA Environmental Analysis and Outcomes Division will use to assess the condition of these water bodies.
