Outcome 3: Utilize a public outdoor canvas to increase diversity and cultural expression of area children and adults on the east alley wall of the Cultural Centre which is across the street from the City Park by creating sidewalk chalk art. We also hope to increase the indoor gallery art hanging space by fifteen square feet. Outcome #7: Reduce electric and natural gas usage at the Centre and maintain the overall relative humidity level in the gallery to between 40% and 60%. #3: An artist log in sheet will be posted near the wall to account for every participant working on the public outdoor canvas. Names will be compared to prior art class participants to ascertain ?newcomers?. We hope to increase the diversity of participants by ten children and five adults over six months. Also, the interior wall art hanging space will be measured prior to the removal of the one window section on the east wall and again after the removal. #7: The monthly electric and gas bills will be compared for a six month period in 2020 and 2021. A hygrometer will be used to record relative humidity in the gallery for two months prior to the completion of the project and two months after. We will look for a 30% reduction in electric and gas usage and 40% to 60% relative humidity in the gallery 90% of the time.
The canvas was utilized and enjoyed by children and adults during the Lions International filming, attesting to its potential to attract participants. Middle school students utilized the canvas regularly during their fall art classes at the Centre. Due to the late availability of the canvas (Sept 25th), there was little opportunity for increased diversity of cultural expression. Participants showed an increase of 10 children newcomers and 2 new adults. Currently the images portrayed on the wall are animals, hand prints, landscapes, cartoon characters, and a written message ?to love on another?. It appears there may be a significant energy savings with the new window from the data thus far. Comparing the period 9/15/21 to 11/29/21 with the previous year indicates that gas usage (fall heating) was reduced by 43%.
