We are incredibly fortunate to have international leaders in string instruction who have connections to other world class musicians and teachers. We wish to take advantage of their passion and energy to benefit our students, our program and our community. We believe that positive role models help students understand pathways to high achievement. By giving youth access to excellence, we create opportunities for inspiration. Following are some of the expected benefits: -Boosting recruitment for all art programs in Grand Rapids - Bringing community together through partnerships and group activities - Increasing the awareness of the importance of music and art - Accessing high quality performances by acclaimed international artists - Cultivating a sense of belonging to an artistic community - Inspire artistic excellence Measurable outcomes are: 1) Numbers of attendees who sign up for the string program 2) Number of survey responses that indicate a positive experience We are very interested in evaluating the camp activities and chamber music festival as this is an introductory year. Due to Covid-19 restrictions on capacity, we will need to limit enrollment. We anticipate this to be an annual event that will be much larger in future years. In addition, we plan to have an adult component and winds sectionals next year. This is our year to identify opportunities for improvement. We will use three separate surveys. Students, parents and audience members will be asked to rate their agreement with 3-5 positive outcome statements and include a comment section. In addition, we will solicit feedback during the camp. The Monday following the camp, we will hold a staff meeting to go over surveys and obtain feedback from the teachers. The ED will distribute meeting notes, a survey summary and a financial report to TCCC which will be used for 2022 planning. Compiling the number of attendees that sign up for the string program will done at registration.
The educational goals to inspire students was met. Students were exposed to a variety of engaging activities led by exceptional teaching staff. Explicit instruction on strings instruments were interwoven with more easily accessible activities. Students were able to experience connecting to their inner creativity and learn new skills. Students learned new skills and demonstrated those skills at a public concert.
