Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The Good Harbor Hill Players feel the need to bring community members together in a shared creative expression of our corner of the world. Winter is a long, dark time on the north shore of Lake Superior. That can make it difficult to live here but it is also what makes us who we are. In exploring aspects of our world we hope to spark curiosity, a deeper sense of community and a commitment to stewardship of our place here. Measurable outcomes are: -Numbers of workshop participants -Numbers of Audience members -Audience and Workshop participant feedback We record the performance and review it for the purpose of evaluating overall flow of the performance, technical issues, audience reaction and visual and musical merit. We track numbers of workshop participants and audience members. We provide an email address in our program to solicit and encourage feedback. Examples from past years include: "We had a wonderful time savoring the sweet humor and fantastic music." "THANKS..the Solstice Pageant was magical and pure of spirit ...appreciate your time and efforts" "Capturing and projecting the vibrancy of this community's mix of talent and creativity, perhaps more than any other single entity or event, is the theater of the puppeteers and the music of the Good Harbor Hill Players."

Measurable Outcome(s)

The Good Harbor Hill Players created an original shadow puppet show with live music for the occasion of the winter solstice, December 21st, 2021. Our work began on November 28 at an initial meeting to consider ideas for the performance. Members of the public joined the core artists in designing and creating the shadow puppets, as well as participating in rehearsals and performing the show. Workshops took place every evening for eight days prior to the show. Our show was titled "Be Thankful for What You Got". The primary component of our story line derived from an anecdote shared at our initial meeting. Our musical director described how an industrious Red Squirrel had packed the air intake pipe for her wood stove with pine cones. The production and final event took place on the campus of North House Folk School in Grand Marais. The performance featured 18 puppeteers and musicians, and was attended by approximately 150 audience members, despite a bitter cold wind chill.
