Katha Dance Theatre (KDT) creates, performs, and educates through the arts of dance, music, poetry, and storytelling. Rooted in Kathak, the classical dance style of North India, Katha Dance Theatre is dedicated to making Kathak dance accessible, inclusive and relevant.

A diverse audience of Minnesotans will learn and grow by experiencing Asian Indian art and culture through an ancient and expressive form of dance, Kathak. Produce cross-cultural dance programming, outreach and residencies throughout MN. Conduct formal surveys to understand participant experiences. Invite informal feedback in post-show discussions, online, through email, website and social media. 2: KDT will increase its capacity to bridge diverse cultures and enhance the Minnesota community through the Kathak arts of dance, music, poetry and storytelling. Finalize a plan to hire a Managing Director. Improve the size and effectiveness of Board of Directors. Train the next generation of Kathak dancers in its Apprentice program and planned Choreographers Lab. Increase contributed revenue and audience size.
In spite of the coronavirus pandemic, we continued to offer high quality Kathak programming to our growing community. We measured school growth quantitatively; approx. 30 new students. An international Kathak artist leading our '20 intensive helped w/ growth. Over 2K viewers watched our student showcases and other virtual programming throughout '20. 2: We were able to increase our capacity to fulfill our mission through expanded leadership and Company ranks. Quantitative data show: we grew our Company by 1, added 3 new apprentices & opened our classes to an international community via Zoom We also added 3 new members to our board of directors, establishing an effective leadership base.
