Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

K, 1st and SPED students will learn basic theater skills (using face, body and voice) and puppetry while gaining creative tools for finding calm. Evaluator will observe first and last classes, and use a rubric to rate students' basic theater and puppetry skills. Teachers will share observations of student growth and retention via written and verbal surveys. 2: Adults in family workshops will increase their confidence for using art at home. Participants will complete written self-assessments on a 5- point scale re: growth in their artistic skills, comfort with art making process and frequency of using art at home in between sessions.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Students demonstrated their ability to express emotions using their bodies, faces and voices via tableaus exploring key themes of Monkey Mind Pirates. Based on last year's project, the team determined that this type of classroom observation was not effective. Instead, the magnet coordinator worked with the artists to develop teacher interviews for the teachers to report observable impact. 2: Parents reported that the Art in the Box workshops and materials increased the amount of time they spent creatively engaging with their children. Participants completed written self-assessments on a 5- point scale re: growth in their artistic skills, comfort with art making process and frequency of using art at home in between sessions. The surveys were included in their box of art materials.
