The Cedar Cultural Center will establish an African based music mentorship program for elementary and middle school students at the Cedar Riverside Community School (CRCS) in partnership with after-school tutoring and the STEAM skill building organization Mind Foundry.

Twenty K-8 students will gain knowledge of and skills in various West and East African musical styles through voice, percussion, and guitar instruction. Arts learners will demonstrate artistic skills learned through 1) performance, 2) feedback in evaluative surveys and discussions, and 3) observations by musical instructors and Mind Foundry staff. 2: CRCS students and their families develop a deeper appreciation for various African styles of music through regular practice and performance. The Improve Group will seek student and parental feedback to determine the continuation of the music mentorship classes embedded into Mind Foundry after school programming at CRCS.
