As a core to Como’s mission on education, updating the aging interpretive signage and adding interactive and technology based interpretive and hands-on experiences is important. The cost to develop, design and produce these items is needed for African Hoofstock, Large Cats and the Japanese Gardens. The displays will demonstrate Como Zoo’s commitment to world-wide conservation measures.

The Science Museum of Minnesota’s work with schools is a continuation of efforts undertaken in the FY12-13 biennium, generously funded by an appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. With previous Legacy funds, we undertook a museum-wide evaluation of our offerings to schools and how we could better serve our student and educator audiences.
Upon learning of State support for the Rochester project, the Museum implemented changes to our governance, staffing and operations structure to effectively expand our capacity. Initial exhibit, program, IT, marketing and communication plans have been launched for the opening. The Museum recently signed a lease agreement on a 5,000 square foot space that will provide engaging learning experiences for up to 30,000 anticipated visitors in the first year of operation. The goal of the American Indian Family Center is to create an Early Childhood Montessori Language Immersion Program to offer to American Indian Families living in Saint Paul and the east metro area. This grant will recruit and select candidates for each training opportunity (both the Montessori Teacher and Assistant), train the candidates in both models (Montessori and language immersion), and ultimately place the candidates in programs that are committed to offering the model for early learners.
Minnesota’s 12 regional public library systems, which encompass 350 public libraries in all areas of the state, benefit from a portion of the Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Through State Library Services, a division of the Minnesota Department of Education, each regional public library system receives a formula-driven allocation from the annual $3 million Minnesota Regional Library Legacy Grant.
The Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans in collaboration with the Minnesota Humanities Center will fund arts and cultural heritage programming to educate, highlight, and promote understanding of the arts and cultural heritage of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) for all Minnesotans.
