The Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grant allowed the Library at Minnesota State University, Mankato to acquire 17 new manuscript collections and fill in gaps for 3 additional collections.
The primary mission of the Library at Minnesota State University, Mankato is to support the curriculum of the University, with the secondary mission being to serve as a regional information center for the residents of southern Minnesota. The Legacy grant made possible the acquisition of Minnesota focused microfilm that will have an enduring value to both the campus and the region.
With the grant the Kanabec County Historical Society purchased sixteen rolls of microfilm to make current their collection of Kanabec County Times newspaper through 2007 and fill in the missing years of the Grasston Advance for 1920 and 1922.
Blue Earth County Historical Society added of 126 microfilm reels of the local newspapers: The Free Press, Lake Crystal Tribune, Lake Region Times, Maple River Messenger and The Land magazine. These additions complete the collection with what is currently available through the Minnesota Historical Society's microfilm lab.
To enhance the free arts and cultural heritage performances on Pope County Fair's Free Stage by installing a permanent sound system and bring a Medicine Wagon Show to perform multiple shows each day of the fair. Additionally, to mount historical markers around the fair to explain the history of the buildings and fairgrounds.
Dakota Wicohan is engaged in a multi-phased oral history project on the Minnesota Dakota language, the state's first language. For this phase of the project, Dakota Wicohan catalogued twenty-three (23) interviews and recordings of elders, elder speakers, language programs and activists. Identified themes included military service, Dakota values, advice for language learners and reasons for language loss.

East Central Regional Library (ECRL) is a consolidated regional public library system in east central Minnesota.

The Pope County Historical Society hired experienced an HVAC engineer, to conduct an evaluation of their mechanical system. This included three site visits to document current conditions through interviews, photos and temperature/humidity dataloggers placed throughout the museum. With this information, they prepared a written analysis including recommendations to improve the HVAC system toward current museum standards.
To highlight the importance of agriculture in rural and urban areas and to bring awareness of how farming culture is alive throughout Minnesota.
To bring the All American Lumberjack Show to Lac qui Parle County Fair. With two teams and ten lumberjack events, the show will offer viewers an opportunity to see demonstrations of old time skills, and can join the lumberjacks at camp to get a hands on experience.
To hire a qualified HVAC engineer to prepare planning documents for a future project to improve environmental conditions for the Elysian School, listed in the National Register of Historic Places
To hire a qualified consultant to perform an assessment of Lac qui Parle Historical Society's heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.
An interpretive exhibit was created with table displays using historically factual text and illustrative photographs and a short play was developed to tell the story of how the dam was built and its affect on the local people and economy. The exhibit counters negative impressions about the dam and provides little known information to the public. Research included files, papers and photographs from the BECHS, a local appeal in newspapers and on radio for personal accounts, Blue Earth county information and information from companies involved in the reconstruction of the dam in the 1980's.
The Lac qui Parle County Historical Society/Museum purchased a laptop computer and a PastPerfect software program to facilitate the inventory of their entire historical collection. The program is stored on the Lac qui Parle county server.
To hire a qualified and experienced HVAC engineer to evaluate the current system in preparation for better control of the Kensington Area Heritage Society museum environment.
Kanabec County Historical Society purchased a ST ViewScan Digital Microfilm system which included a Apple laptop computer, Windows 7 for Macs and Stylus Photo software and a printer to broaden public access to primary historical records.
