The goal of this project is to construct, calibrate, and validate one fine-scale Hydrological Simulation Program FORTRAN (HSPF) watershed model for the Duluth Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) project area for the simulation period 1995–2012. In addition, an existing condition (post-2012 flood) model scenario will be developed for use in WRAPS development. The contractor will produce HSPF models that can readily be used to provide information to support conventional parameter TMDLs.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will coordinate the collection of high-resolution elevation data for northeastern portion of Minnesota using Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) systems. The geographic area of the work includes Minnesota counties of Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis Counties and that portion of Koochiching County that comprises Voyageurs National Park.
The St. Louis River Alliance will complete the data set for the water quality assessment of six target streams in the Lake Superior Basin. These streams are the Gooseberry River, Beaver River, Lester River, Big Sucker River, Split Rock River and Knife River.
