To acquire professional services that will write a cultural landscape report for the Chik Wauk Lodge, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, preparatory to future historic preservation projects
A General Preservation Assessment Survey was conducted, on behalf of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, by the Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC). From the survey and after in-put from staff, a long-range plan and funding strategy was recommended for their historic collections.
To hire qualified professionals to repair masonry on the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) Hall, now part of the Meeker County Historical Society's museum facilities, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
To fabricate and install 26 interpretive markers along portions of Minnesota highways 104, 55, 28 and 29
The grant assisted in hiring a consultant to review and revise 26 historical markers and pictorial tables to make a determination regarding historical accuracy and to facilitate Tribal consultation and input for the Glacial Ridge Trail Scenic Byway Interpretive Signage Project along portions of Minnesota highways 104, 55, 28 and 29.
The GTHS hired a conractor who: 1. Transcribed 32 recorded oral interviews of residents of the Gunflint Trail. 2. Conducted further interviews (to be recorded and transcribed as well) of many more area residents, some in their 80's and 90's. 3. Digitized all oral histories and transcriptions and entered them into PastPerfect Software.
To hire a qualified and experienced HVAC engineer to evaluate current system preparatory to better control of the North Superior Lifeboat Station Lightkeeper's House, listed in the National Register of Historic Places and current home of the Cook County Historical Society.
The Greater Litchfield Opera House Association contracted with an experienced historical architect to design and create a work plan to properly guide interior restoration and preserve remaining historic fabric of the Litchfield Opera House, listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A set of interior planning documents were developed for a final report. It will be used for future restoration work.

MCHS accomplished more than the stated goal to finish the inventory of the remaining half of an estimated 8000+ items. A total of 17,000 items were inventoried. The MCHS now has a more accurate and complete resource for access and control of the collections.
