We propose a programmatic approach to achieve prioritized aquatic habitat protection for trout streams in Minnesota, with an emphasis on Southeast and Northeast Minnesota. We propose to protect 3.75 miles of trout streams, including approximately 75 acres with permanent conservation easements on private land. Protected lands will be designated as Aquatic Management Areas (AMA's) administered by the Minnesota
DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Trees usually die as a result of infestation and an unprecedented outbreak in the west is currently decimating pine forests there. While mountain pine beetle is not presently believed to reside in Minnesota, there are risks posed by an expanding species range resulting from warming climate and the potential for accidental introduction via lumber imports from infested areas.

This purpose of this project is to evaluate the conditions of eight streams in the Cedar River Watershed and one site on the Wapsipinicon River. Monitoring will take place for two years. Mower Soil and Water Conservation District staff will collect samples following Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Intensive Watershed Monitoring (IWM) sample collection protocols and will organize and review all field and laboratory data, along with field notes and photos.
A research phase was completed on background information related to creating a new exhibit on Mower County during World War II. To perform the research, their curator's hours were increased to determine exhibit themes, create a tentative floor plan for the exhibit, and determine cost estimates for an implementation project.

To enhance exhibits of local artists' work by improving lighting in Mower County Fair's Creative Arts Building. Additional natural light and new spotlights will help artists highlight their work.
Ninety percent of the land in Mower County is used for agriculture. The County ranks 10th and 13th in the State for corn and bean production, making much of the land vulnerable to erosion due to the planting of row crop. As a result, streams and ditches in the county see high sediment loads.
The purpose of the grant was to collect prepatory information and purchase necessary equipment to carry out a microfilming project, to preserve and make accessible records of individual townships within Mower County from the earliest date possible through 2008. To complete this work, the Project Director met with members of the Minnesota Historical Society staff and a microfilming agent to learn about the microfilming and record preparation process. This project will develop a plan that identifies several stormwater best management practices (BMPs) for the City of St. Bonifacius and surrounding rural areas. Implementation of these BMPs will improve water quality in Mud Lake and Halsted's Bay. A watershed model (EPA-SWMM and P8) will be developed to determine existing phosphorus and sediment loading from the City of Bonifacius and adjacent rural areas draining to Mud Lake. Model output will be used to identify several potential locations for stormwater BMPs throughout the city and surrounding areas.
The goal of this project is to analyze and document database architecture, platform, table structures, systems and data fields at six Minnesota agencies (Board of Soil and Water Resources, Department of Natural Resources, MN Department of Agriculture, MN Department of Health, Metropolitan Council, and MN Pollution Control Agency) for 30+ databases related to water.
The Greater Blue Earth River Basin Alliance (GBERBA) along with Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Counties, landowners, and drainage authorities in the ten member counties will install conservation drainage practices to improve water quality. 103E drainage systems with documented sediment or water quality issues are the focus with the goal of installing 52 practices such as improved side inlets (grade stabilization structures), alternative tile inlets, denitrifying bioreactors, saturated buffers, storage wetlands and others.
MECA will offer day sessions intended to educate permittees on the requirements for the MS4 permit. The sessions will be held in Vadnais Heights, Detroit Lakes, St. Cloud, St. Paul and Mankato Minnesota.
Minnesota Erosion Control Association (MECA) will offer three one-day training session intended to educate permittees on the requirements of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit. The focus of these workshops will be on conducting inspections and various hot topics.
A series of three bilingual (English/Spanish) heritage-discovery walks have been selected and sixty plaques have been erected that tell the history and evolution of Lake Street. The historical markers include information and photographs of the area, as well as specific buildings both past and present. The walking tours are designed to educate, to foster a sense of historical identity and to encourage preservation of local historic sites. Brochures of the walking tours are available to the public free of charge at local businesses.
